University of Oxford NPEU Choose MetaCompliance to meet Compliance Objectives

Metacompliance are delighted to announce and welcome the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit (NPEU), University of Oxford to our customer base. Like other public and private sector organisations who store sensitive customer information, Universities have an obligation to meet compliance objectives and protect customer’s Personally Identifiable Information (PII). Sarah Lawson, It Co-ordinator at the NPEU said that the purchase of a Policy Management and User Awareness automation tool would greatly assist them in meeting their compliance obligations.

When asked why they chose the MetaCompliance solution, Sarah said “The MetaCompliance product seemed to offer a balance of simplicity and good value for money. The plan is to ensure a smooth, integrated and reliable dissemination of policies and SOP’s to all staff. In addition the maintenance of a consistent audit trial to prove staff have received and acknowledge compliance will be very valuable.”

Universities have recently come under scrutiny from the ICO following a recent Data Breach concerning The University of York, where student’s PII’s were leaked on the website. York University is assisting the ICO with their enquiries but has been criticised for acting only after the horse had bolted.

Speaking on behalf of Metacompliance, MD Robert O Brien stated “Like other organisations that hold sensitive personal customer information, Universities need to have effective policies and processes in place to ensure all staff understand data protection obligations. They also need to ensure they have the necessary reports available in the event of a data breach to mitigate risk to their organisation. The University of Oxford’s NPEU unit should be congratulated for taking a proactive approach to tackling the issue; we look forward to assisting them with their user awareness campaigns.”
