The New Year means a new offensive from multinational cybergangs to access your personal data. We are now in what some call HMRC phishing season.
Time is running out to file tax returns before people start racking up hundreds of pounds in fines. 31st January is the date if you earn money outside of an employer’s PAYE system. Fail to do so and you’ll be hit with a £100 fine, with a further £10 then added for every day up to 90 days, plus interest.
Cybergangs are clever. They know we’re all human. They know that with everyone rushing to make the 31st January deadline people are stressed, maybe not thinking clearly, and not being as careful as they should be.
The rules to protect you, your staff, and your stakeholders from the real threat of phishing during HMRC phishing season is always the same:
There are two certainties in life: death and taxes. In our digital age the threat of phishing attacks might just be another.
